Internet so many ways to hurt : Part-3

Part 3: Real world, Cyber world

You thought your cyber life will not impact your real life. Since we have touched on issues of how social networking sites have impact on your real life. Let see some more ways, how you may make a bad first impression.

Not able to find suitable life-partner?
Probably should check, if some portion of you online identity is objectionable, posting pictures of getting drunk in Goa, may get likes from friends but will surely keep the prospective in-laws away.

No landlord wants to give you his flat for rent?
Sharing pictures and videos of those wild-parties “#totally got wasted yesterday”, dirty flat pictures “#I haven’t cleaned the room in six month’s… LOL!” was not a good idea. Neither was trashing the place after weekend party and disturbing neighbors.

Getting soliciting calls on your mobile. Getting a lot of spam mails.
Then consider this leaving your phone number and email account at forums, at dubious website, for different Ponzi schemes is never a good idea.

Have to get rid of your mobile connection, because you ran up the bill too high by using 3G/4G?
Generally when internet packs are sold the details are obfuscated by service provider, it’s your job to clear up everything. Buying a 3G data plan with 1GB free limit and no bill shield is certainly affordable, but after free limit the charges are on per kilobyte basis, watching videos online after getting drunk may be fun but in the morning you will have to sell your kidneys to pay for that bill, losing the connection is a better option.

Got a Wi-Fi connection and got no idea how to secure it?
Be assured that things like somebody using your IP for illegal activities and stealing your internet, running up your internet bill, happens to somebody other.

General rule, “What can be used, can be misused and what can be misused can abused, and what can be abused shall certainly be abused.”

Got banned from a site? Friends or family not amused by your last comment online? What comment you ask?
Probably someone else was trolling using your account, you may not necessarily be hacked, you may have left a session logged in a public computer, or office common computer or some friends computer or a device, shared your password online, left you password written on your desk so on…

Lost a bet? Made a fool of yourself, because you took things on internet as facts?
This happens to every one of us, until we become jaded by internet and stop believing everything online. Wikipedia has come under fire for such thing as people can write/update things on Wikipedia you may use Wikipedia for knowledge but for facts you should verify before saying I read that on Wikipedia. Similarly on forums if you read advice, it may not be 100% correct. You have to check facts and do the research yourself.

This is all I can think of at this moment; do leave a comment if you remember some other ways internet can hurt.

Thanks for reading.

Internet so many ways to hurt : Part-2

Part-2: Hurt me plenty…

Congratulations on being connected; now we can explore ways of getting hurt by internet, Ignorance was bliss only till you were not connected.

Can you lend me your credit card, I think my computer is sick and have some fever, yeah signs are there. What do you mean by what signs?
My computer runs too slow, my files has disappeared, there is constantly Good Samaritan named PCDOC telling me that PC is infected with virus, He constantly tries to clean it but I think I have to give some money first, I will give it but you see, I do not have a credit card. Can you lend me yours?

The problem here is quite common one with new users of internet, the problem is ignorance, mostly a system that is not protected by some kind of Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware, and the user becomes susceptible to this kind of cyber-attack. There is some advertisement like click here to get IPhone on 90% discount. Things like that, the above example a pop-up opens that scans your computer saying 75 infected file found click here to clean now then it asks you to enter your credit card details. The problems with relative new users who are not computer experts are susceptible to these kinds of harms.
Rules of safe browsing- do not click on these kinds of Ponzi schemes; they are generally virus, Trojans or malwares/adware.
Always use an Antivirus even the free types will give you some protection. Do not submit your private confidential information on unsecure link to dubious links you are not sure about origins to. If something pop-up or message ask you to install something on your computer, Unless and until you have specifically requested the install, clicking no or cancel is best option. If you are not sure, then not installing will be the safer option.

What are these things you are talking about?

VIRUS – are malicious piece of code, that can disrupt normal working of your computer, Like you are unable to use a program because exe was corrupted by it, file of the folder hidden or deleted or corrupted these are VIRUS like activities.

TROJANS – they are software or utilities that has a dual purpose, one is masquerading like a useful stuff and hidden purpose of malicious use that might be stealing your private confidential data like passwords through keylogging. Hijacking your computer for use in cybercrimes like Denial of service and hacking.

WORM – Write once read many is another kind of Code that copies itself several times, example a worm copying itself in every folder you access and every time you access it, these may have some other malicious content or just nuisances. They may use up your computer memory making your computer run slow.

An Anti-Virus will protect you from most of these, also keep your firewall on if anti-virus has not installed a firewall of itself, also don’t override anti-virus if it is trying to tell you something. Anti-virus sometimes gives false positive so try to research first before overriding your nagging anti-virus program.

Hey can you tell me how can I send money to Nigeria? There is some opportunity to make some serious money and earn good karma by helping some poor guy who is requesting my help.

If you receive mails like this and believe them that you will become a victim of Cyber-Frauds. You may receive Spam mails from sender from foreign places and inland places too, about some sad story where you can help by sending some money and in return you will get gold or jewels and what not. They are all fraud do not fall victim to these kinds of mails. If you are using your Email account properly, enable spam mails and report such mails to service provider so that they will be blocked.

Can you tell me who to complaint to, I have not received my IPhone, I ordered at dirt cheap prices online. I am really looking forward to it.

If you have discovered joys of online shopping then also remember, a lot of stuff is bought and sold on trust. If you received a mail telling click this link to buy something for dirt cheap prices. Check whether it is from a reputed site. Do not ever follow the links in the mail. You may be confused by the URL and end up being victim of phishing attack.

Phishing Attack – If you know a site to be genuine and follow a link from email you may end up on a fake site which only looks similar and was only interested in stealing your credentials, so always go to site by typing the base URL itself.

I bought some stuff from such and such sites haven’t got it till now, any response from customer support too. That’s why you should never buy stuff online. Unless and until you can see the person and stuff, how can you be sure of the item?

Buying Online is relatively safe nowadays some pointer should be followed.
1) Don’t buy from unknown sites; try cash on delivery if available from new sites. Otherwise avoid them, even if deal is too tempting.
2) Do your research before buying the stuff, site review includes that see what other people have to say about their experience.
3) To avoid getting gray stuff, ask for valid Tax paid receipts for warranty purpose.
4) Check returns policy of the purchase, some sites gives you store balance instead of refunding your money.

Got declined for job, I applied, I wonder why? They just screened me out no reason given, I don’t know, I have sufficient qualifications for the job. Man I tell you they all are sellouts.

In this day of social media revolution, company’s HR checks your online profiles at social networking sites. You now have to be careful what you decide to share on your Facebook, Google plus pages. Clean up your official accounts of things an employer may find objectionable. The internet technology has become quite advanced now. Lying to someone while sharing your location on Android phone will get you caught. Example, making excuse that you are sick while sharing your location that you are on a beach or mall, will get you caught. Saying you were sleep, when WhatsApp messenger announces your last seen time. These are numerous more way to get caught while making excuses.

Here we discussed just a few ways Internet can hurt you, in part 3 of the blog let see some Cyber Issues spilling over in real world.

Internet so many ways to hurt : Part-1

Part-1: Easy to Connect

Today that will be 24th Oct 2014 (when I am writing this not publishing). What I will like to give my inputs about is “how it has become so easy to go online now”. And consequently come to the topic, It will still hurt but may be you will know where the pain is coming from.

Is it easy to connect?
When I was studying engineering way back in 2000 (BE 97-Batch), It was not easy to be online, cybercafé were there and the operated on dial-up connections. Even computer used to cost like 50 – 80 thousand INR for assembled computers. Not everyone can afford these systems. And mind you the salaries were like 15 to 25 K INR  for middle class families.

Nowadays you have broadband connections (back then we had internet dial-up of limited MB’s at speeds of 2 Kbps).Cheap affordable Computer and Cheap affordable Internet has truly revolutionized the India. Gone are the days when you have to check dictionary for the words you don’t know or knowledge you don’t have. “Google it!” has now become a term in spoken English.

Ways to connect?

Do you have a cell-phone? If it is made in last couple of years, it will have an ability to connect to Internet. What? no, you may want to go online to purchase one that does connect.

You have a land-line phone – You may want to make it more useful, by subscribing to a broadband connection. They really come very cheap nowadays.

What? You do not have a land-line you may want to get one with bundled broadband connection.

Land-line phone has its uses; it’s a reliable way to call when mobile networks are acting up. They are useful for calling those toll free numbers and special services number such as railway inquiry. It also a valid address document for KYC (know your customer) documentation requirement.

Cable Internet, Your friendly neighborhood Cable-TV-Wala also may have a local service of Internet. That they provide via same cable they use for your TV.

Paid Wi-Fi connections, many ISP’s offer subscriptions thorough Local Area Wi-Fi Hotspots, you may want to try one of them.

Data-Card / Dongle – You may want to get a new SIM card with a USB data dongle loaded to some affordable Internet plan. Plug into your computer and you are ready to go online.

Then almost all offices/institutions  have a facility for employees to go online via proxy servers, this includes notorious government offices and schools too.

Free Public Access Wi-Fi hot-spots: since they are free they do impose some restrictions and are generally not considered safe for sensitive data. But who cares they are free so woo-hoo!

Then you can always beg/borrow/snatch (steal) internet time from friends, colleagues and neighbors.

Try

Oh! No, my data plan is busted.
Hey can you create a portable Wi-Fi hot spot for me?
What? You don’t know how to create one, here let me show you, go to settings>wireless and networks>Tethering and portable hot spot…

Hey neighbor? Have to book an important travel ticket.
Please share your Wi-Fi password with me.
What? It’s not working, why?
Oh! So typical of you to forget to pay the bill and Wi-Fi got disconnected, and here I was thinking that you have got smart and properly secure your home network.

Oh! Notification for an open Wi-Fi network. Let try to connect and yeah! Free Internet baby, Let find a place to sit and something to munch on while we take this connection for a test ride…

So you may be connected, but as stated by “No free lunch theory”, this is going to hurt. How? We will try to explore in part-2 of this topic.

Buying a Value for money [VFM] Laptop Part -4 [Summing Up and Making a Purchase]

Now putting the rant in previous post to work and buying a VFM Laptop that will suits my needs.

1) What specs do i want?

CPU - Intel i3 processor, (GHz don't matter), 4th Generation
RAM - 4 GB DDR3
HDD - 500 GB (Doesn't matter)
Screen Size - 14" LED Screen
Graphics - Need graphics card and V-RAM to catch on some older games
Battery - 3 or 6 cell
Brand - does not matter
OS - Already have retail licensed windows copy.

2) Consideration if any ?

I will like a laptop back-pack.
I will like more than 1 USB 3.0 port
I will like  a HDMI port.
I will like to spend less than 25K INR (Budget of 30K)

3) So [Buy] which, where and how?

Research the choices

[Locally] I researched the choices by first going to my friendly neighborhood computer dealer. He gave me some choices but always broke my budget of Rs 30K. I talked to some of the vendors at my office, they always have some discounts going on for us. Again the choices were there but always budget of 30K was exceeded.

[Online] I searched online using the filters of things what I want, at once I narrowed my options to few choices. Sites to use for online buying in India Flipkart, Snapdeal, Amazon, Shopclues, ebay
in order of their preference for me.

I then narrowed on cheapest stuff (read deals) , warranty info etc and weigh and narrowed down to few choices namely
1)Dell Vostro 14 V3446
2)HP Compaq 15-s005TX
3)Dell Inspiron 3442

Start searching in different online portals for lower prices / deals coupons etc.after some time, I was leaning towards HP-Compaq from flipkart which was around 25K with ongoing offer.

I was not happy with 15" screen so waited for some time, around 6th of October on Flipkart's Billion day , I checked back for discount but found that since on-going offers were removed and billion day celebrations did not include the specific model , I wanted, that was one with 2GB Nvidia Gfx card.

I just started looking on other sites and ended up at Amazon. where Dell Vostro 14 V3446 came up with price tag of  24,339 INR. I checked with other sites, found this to be lowest.

Buying decision
All my specs requirements were satisfied by this deal.
My optional wishes were fulfilled 2 out of 4.
The Laptop only had 1 USB 3.0 port and Laptop did not have HDMI port.

Now what made me buy this laptop was ongoing offer from Amazon of 2K gift card and Offer from SBI-Cards for 10% max(1500) cash back.

I am not sure whether i will get both offers on the laptop, but in case, I get both offers then effective price of this laptop will be (24339-1500-2000 = 20839 INR) which is a steal deal for this laptop.

One good thing about living in India about this time is online promotions as a lot of Indians are still not comfortable in buying online. And Indian festivals, if you are looking to buy an expensive item you don't need immediately you can always wait for some festival offer to come along for you to get some discounts and deals.

I will be adding Installing windows 7 and some must have utilities on Dell Vostro 3446 along with quick review. Will post that later..

Buying a Value for money [VFM] Laptop Part -3 [Bundles, last minute doubts]

Value Added Bundles and freebies Consideration

Laptop bag - Check if laptop bag is provided this will add value to your purchase. its certainly not a deal breaker as you get a lot of cheap bags in stores/online. For cheap entry level laptops usually comes with cheap entry level laptop bags. So you may end up buying laptop bag anyway to carry your machine around.

Wireless Mouse - If you are casual user or relatively new to computers and laptops. I mean not used to a mouse. Consider not using/getting a mouse with laptop. My reason is that touch pad on laptop is certainly usable and I see my nephew and niece using laptop with such an ease with touch pad. My problem is I am so used to mouse that it has become a crutch. If you are buying a cheap laptop for kids to learn let them become comfortable with touch pad instead.

Laptop Cooler Pad - If you are using laptop on a table or hard surface then its not necessary.
I will recommend it's use if you will be using it on bed, as soft surface will block air vents.
It comes as cheap as 300 INR, So not a deal breaker if you are not getting one free with your laptop.

Mostly you get this kind of accessory  bundles from dealer and not from online stores. as they justify the prices by convincing you about the freebies they are giving and of course the service they will be providing. I will say one thing try telling them to give you discount instead. About service they will not be providing you service anyway other than telling you the service center number or address. For the margins nowadays laptop sells for, it is unpractical for the dealers to provide service. they may try to sell you AMC or extended warranty.

Extended Warranty. In my opinion extended warranty is not worth buying at full rates. sometimes you will find deals with extended warranty bundled. Or at some discount. then you should consider extended warranty. It does gives peace of mind. Even if the company tries to screw you out of the warranty by telling you what exactly you did wrong.

Software bundles: mostly anti-virus comes bundled with PC with usage time like one year or six months. they are okay but certainly you will find much cheaper subscription on sale somewhere. Not worth making/breaking a deal over it.

Final Considerations (last minute doubts)

1) I am worried laptop will be slow, if i buy a cheap laptop.
Computer is as fast as its slowest component and laptop market price is based on CPU/features/brand value. So CPU will be least of you worries if you are not advanced/high end user.
Consider buying and installing an SSD. If you are worried about speed. Even the cheaper laptops will show great speeds with SSD. a 64 GB SSD can be found online as low as 2800 odd rupees
ADATA 64 GB SSD is available on both Snapdeal and Amazon for under 3K. do this and you will not regret and put your bundled HDD inside a USB casing and use it as removable storage device.

2) what are ports and how do they matter?
Ports provide expand-ability to the device.

i)HDMI/VGA port - one or both will be present, allow you to extend, duplicate or transfer display to external viewing device like monitor, projectors and TV,
if you wish/need to connect to these devices check if HDMI port is there nowadays most of these devices has HDMI ports and HDMI has added advantage of carrying sound along with display.

ii) USB 3.0/2.0 ?
used to connect wide range of devices from mobile phones to pendrive and everything in between. look for USB 3.0 if absent should be a deal breaker imho. More the ports more the merrier.
for USB 2.0 you can use cheap hubs but for USB 3.0 hub will cost an arm and a leg and something in between.

iii) LPT1/serial/fire wire
you kidding have to use a converter, I have not seen these ports in cheap laptops and not the recent one too.

iv) e-SATA port
will not be available in cheaper laptop, used to connect SATA devices (HDD's)

v) audio header
will be available do not worry (3.5mm).. you say spdif ? I will say no kidding..

3) You have kept silent about battery what size 3 / 6 / 9 cells, which to get ?
Get anyone, for cheap laptops you will generally get 3 cells battery, the more number of cells longer is the battery backup. with kind of laptop, I am trying to buy even 3 cell battery will give a decent backup and laptop will be light to carry around.

Now armed with my knowledge and conviction, I  will be recounting how I bought a VFM laptop was decent specs in part 4 of this blog..

Buying a Value for money [VFM] Laptop Part -2 [Graphics, Brands, OS]

Continuing from where we left in part 1 of this blog..

Chipset  Consideration (Intel or AMD)
I have personal experience with Intel platform only and when I spend around 20K INR, I usually do not experiment. Only consideration worth looking into is later generations, so chip-set will be later generations too.

Graphics  Consideration (Intel/ATI/NVidia)
Intel GMA will suffice for needs of both casual and normal users. I am just a casual gamer and last games I played were like Skyrim , Borderlands, Torchlight 2. All of these played well on Intel GMA with medium to low settings. Games were playable with decent frame rates, i will suggest not to look for dedicated graphics card / memory for normal use.

If you want to play 3D games and that too big ones then only consider dedicated graphics memory. Also consider this, if you are buying a laptop below Rs-30K with even low-end graphics chips like Nvidia 820m or AMD Radeon HD R5 M230. You will not be able to play big games with high settings, only with mid-low settings you will get more frame rates, gaming experience will be relativly smoother in comparison of on-board Intel GMA, but nothing to brag about.

Don't think that Intel graphics are bad, they are decent performing chip and some issue comes from shared memory. Usually on-board Intel GMA, shares your slower system memory for V-RAM while ATI and Nvidia comes with their own graphics memory. So performance is better for dedicated memory graphics card in comparison to ones with shared memory. If you are into playing strategy games, card games, flash games and online games then Intel GMA will have you covered.

Getting to the point Intel GMA may struggle to run bigger 3D games, but don't expect wonders from entry level ATI and Nvidia graphics chips usually found in laptops.

Brand Consideration (Acer/Toshiba/ASUS/Fujitsu/Dell/HP/Lenova/Sony)
Simply, I do not ever think on brand for me whats under the hood is important. and if you are buying in Rs 20K +/- range you are buying mass produced Chinese laptops, Company will not matter.

I have bought a number of laptops for friends and family and mostly when I choose the brand it was more due to prices then company name. Here is my personal take on Brands of laptop. mind you, I was the one giving support to these laptops, one way or another, so generally company service support didn't mattered.

You may decide to spend a little more bucks for company giving better support.

Acer - Good Looking Stuff, durable bought 3 of these only one to die was an AMD Turion rest all working well. till date.
Toshiba - bought 3 of these good sturdy laptops, quality wise great.
ASUS - absolute gems you cannot go wrong with ASUS bought 4 so far every one of them still working and going strong..
Fujitsu - bought 2 interesting stuff, last one had like 4 ports and 3 usb 3.0 and 1 usb 2.0 with one usb 3.0 as charging port, HDMI not best looker but certainly good. no problems so far
DELL- avoid these, hmm..  Bought 4 of these and all had one or another problem, battery dies in 1+ year, charger get busted some serious flaw with connector design, motherboard starts acting up
but they have best screen if you are buying Inspiron laptops. cool colors and soothing to eyes.
HP/Compaq - HP worked great until i was too sick of them,  Compaq died twice until i was too fed up to repair it.
Lenova - some of my friends have got them, I only had a second hand think pad of IBM design and it was a absolute tank. i hear good stuff about them but somehow never get around to buying them.
Sony viao - Never had pleasure of buying Sony because when I buy, I look for the cheapest stuff and Sony is not cheap.

OS (Windows or Linux or DOS)
If you have a licensed windows then buy Linux or DOS ones they are cheaper.
If you are a Casual user / New user (read not used to/dependent on windows) buy Linux  laptops
Ubuntu ones are now very user friendly and you can use them quite easily. There is some learning curve then it is also with windows newer version. Chrome books are also an option here.

If you want windows one only and specifically windows 7, try finding windows 7 licenses on sale,
I got one for my dad from old computer dealer, who bought a dead laptop for spares and sold me windows license with sticker for 500 INR. I know it is not transferable but it works on my dad's computer and does not give pirated copy message and system get regular updates. A lot of people buy laptops when their old laptop dies and since they cannot sell many parts for cash and if their new laptop comes with OS pre-installed this may be an option.

Best is to find a deal with OS pre-installed for couples of bucks more.

A lot of people ask me that, some dealer or another offered to install a pirated copy of the OS, why do I even spend money for OS. My advise is that you should probably not pirate the OS, as there are so many files and malicious code may be hiding inside some files that have installed with system privileges. You may never detect that, and your online security is compromised. Nowadays almost all computer sold have a way to connect to internet. It has become so easy to go online now. If you are saving confidential private files, use internet banking, use online shopping you will be vulnerable to cyber crime, by choosing to pirate OS (kind of cyber crime) you have introduced an IT security threat, It's just a matter of time before it will becomes an incident.

Now in part 3 of this blog series , we will look at Value Added Bundles and some last minute doubts.

Buying a Value for money [VFM] Laptop Part -1 [CPU, Memory and Screen Size]

First thing first to buy a vfm laptop, you have to be honest with yourself. Take your expectations too high and the cost will also rise. In the end you will be paying for stuff you will not use. Here brutal honesty will save you some bucks.

Q) What will you be doing with the laptop ?
A) If your answers are like
I want to buy laptop to browse internet, watch you-tube, etc
I will be listening to music (via headphone / external speakers)
I will be watching full-hd movies (here I go again, I will watch what I can find..)
I will be playing games on my laptop. (not latest ones and not on highest settings..)
I will be doing my office stuff (read word, excel, power-point)
or
I will be doing my college stuff word processing and programming.

Then you are a normal user and do not need an expensive laptop.

Now lets review some specs

CPU Specs - Anything from Intel Celeron dual core to i3 will suffice for your needs. depending on how many things from above list you want to do. for all of the above stuff, i3 is a good bet.
Try to buy latest generation or (latest -1) generation.

What is a generation ?
Generation is chip revision and motherboards are also of later platforms like sandy-bridge, ivy bridge, Haswell, Broadwell etc (these are Intel code names), As a rule latest Intel platform will cost you more ,but will perform better (general rule not always) ,

Thumb rule: Later gen processors will be on later platform will perform better even if slightly and will consume less power.

Celeron dual/quad core - if you are in lower frame of casual user buy Celeron, (surf, watch movies, do programming, office/college stuff) Pentium dual/quad core - Normal users (surf, watch movies, do programming, office/college stuff, light gaming ) i3 - power user (All stuff i listed)

Don't even think about i5 & i7
i) will be a waste of money
ii) i5 and i7 laptops heat a lot and drain battery faster so stay away they ain't worth the dough for normal users
iii) see reason i and ii

What is GHz and cache how does it effect my choice?
A later gen cpu with less GHz will out perform an older CPU with more GHz, its processor cycle and for normal user do not be worried about it, cache memory is of two types L1,L2 and L3 cache and more L1 cache and L2 Cache will spell a better performance in term of CPU. Its how the cpu processes the data, if data is available with faster L1 Cache its will process faster, If a little slower L2 cache it will process still faster not as fast as L1, If with RAM then slower again and slowest from HDD. this is technical stuff and as a normal user you should not concern yourself with it. Then these cache memory can be shared and dedicated.

Thumb Rule for normal usage: Buy the cheapest one, more cache with cpu will mean more bucks actually more few thousands of rupees. most cpu with laptop comes with turbo speeds means it will temporarily go up in GHz if need arises. So buy a faster processor with more cache will not justify cost performance ratio for daily normal use.

Q) If I ignore GHz, cache will not that makes my system run slow, Why even consider gen. then?
A) A system is as fast as your slowest component. What I mean is that stop worrying about CPU becoming a bottle neck, most probably it will be other things that will make your system slow and you may blame CPU all you like. Even if you have fastest processor then also if will not work in an eye blink, it will take whatever time it will take. for normal every day use. You won't notice it.

Refer to Image

Memory Consideration
2GB or more ? - install 32 bit OS and 2 GB is more than enough..
4GB install 64 bit OS is more than enough..
8GB why ? why will you even think you need 8GB ram, if you want install 64bit OS and play games whatever your reasons for 8GB RAM

Try to get fastest memory what your board can support. here latest generation laptops generally comes with faster memory.

Screen Size (inches) Consideration (10,11,12,13,14,15,17)

10 inch are generally chrome-books, net-books, tablet convertibles they are for specific users and you will know if you need 10 inch

11/12/13 - they cost more because of their size and easy to carrying, so if you are in lot of travelling with laptop get 12 or 13 inch ones

14 - This is a sweet size for laptop neither too small nor too big that you will feel irritated in lugging it around generally costs more than 15 inch laptops

15/17 - They are big screen laptops, though 15 inch is a little big to carry around it is manageable, you usually get num-pad with 15" laptop and its more spacious to type
Buy 15" if you type a lot and will not live without num-pad
I think 17" laptops should be used as a desktop replacement.

Conclusion Part-1

In this part I have discussed CPU, memory and screen size for further discussions on graphics , OS Brands and Accessory check out part 2 of this blog.
